Theatrex Asia started in 2005 with a mission to bring people together and discuss the future development of theatre-making. Over the course of 20 years, it has become a space for Dr Richard Chua to meet and learn from industry professionals in the theatre and beyond. From the performative to the aesthetic presentations of contemporary art and subsequently into higher education in the field of entertainment arts, one constant thread is Dr Richard Chua’s pursuit in education and skill development. The design, implementation and management of South East Asia’s only entertainment arts programme in Malaysia to transnational education (TNE) development and management in the field of Media and Communications, Film, Performance as well as arts and cultural management education, Theatrex Asia has been a constant companion in providing a platform for development. In 2025, Dr Richard Chua has decided to augment the platform to enable skills development in the arts through partnerships he has built with institutes of higher learning in South East Asia and the United Kingdom and beyond.
